Our Philosophy
Our Approach to Early Childhood Learning and Faith
Culture and faith
We believe all tamariki develop confidence, self-worth and positive self-image as they learn the uniqueness of God’s love for them. We provide an inclusive environment for all. Through this tamariki learn patience, kindness, caring, helpfulness, courage, joyfulness, sharing, love, gentleness and goodness (Galatians 5:22) through the Bible, learning to follow Jesus through prayer, play and interactions.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is founded on the following aspirations for tamariki:
To grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.
Partnership with parents and whānau
We believe parents are a child’s first kaiako and partnership with parents and whānau is actively promoted. We seek to work in collaboration to further develop tamariki ongoing learning pathways. We encourage parents to share their child’s learning they are noticing at home so that together we can plan for tamariki next steps.
We will actively seek ways to support families and whānau with needs arising in their own or extended community.
We are committed to the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand and all tamariki will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of the Māori language, culture and practices. The tamariki will gain confidence using te reo Māori in our daily programme. We also recognise and value our partnership with Pasifika communities. We seek to find ways of celebrating Pasifika culture and values within our curriculum programme. We welcome, appreciate and value the differing cultures and beliefs of all families and whānau that are part of our learning community.
Teaching and learning environments
We nurture and develop the whole child through a structured programme and play opportunities to engage confidently with learning and life. We believe in fostering self-mastery and independent learning. Our teaching and learning environment promotes a holistic approach to supporting tamariki learning and this is guided by the principles, strands and goals of Te Whāriki, the New Zealand bicultural curriculum for early childhood education and Christian values. We believe that play is the work of tamariki and the values we endeavour to foster include honesty, integrity, generosity, respect and kindness.

Our Statement of
Faith and Principles
Biblical Beliefs That Shape Our Life and Learning
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The Bible is the truth and guides us in living a life pleasing to God. His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
We believe in the one true God, eternal in three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of heaven and earth, and creation declares His glory.
We believe that Mankind was created in God's image, according to the pattern set out in Genesis, and not through evolutionary process, to glorify God through our actions and relationship with Him.
We believe we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. However, God loved us so much that He gave His only Son Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins through His death on the cross on our behalf.
We believe Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son, was conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His atoning death, His bodily resurrection, and His ascension to the right hand of the Father. He will return in glory.
We believe salvation is a gift of God by grace alone, and not by our works. The only way to be forgiven and cleansed from sin is to repent, put our faith in Jesus Christ, and receive God’s forgiveness, empowered by the life changing work of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life.
We believe the resurrection of Mankind assures eternal joy for those who have put their faith in God. They will live with God forever, however, those who do not repent of their sin and receive salvation, will be separated from God in eternal punishment.
We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within believers. He is our Helper and empowers and inspires believers to live righteous lives. The power of the Holy Spirit encourages and equips believers to witness and work in faith.
We believe in one Universal Church, with Christ as the Head. He draws together the Body of believers by His Spirit and Word, through faith and unity of purpose to further the Kingdom of God.
We believe a child’s education, which is centred on God and His Word, provides a strong foundation for every area of learning. It helps emphasise the Lordship of Christ and our understanding of the world and our place in it.
We believe parents are a child’s first teacher, bearing the responsibility to nurture and train their child according to God's Word. Timaru Christian Preschool will serve as an integral extension of the home.
